eating disorder truths

    ANOREXIA NERVOSA

anorexia is an eating disorder in which the victim has an excessive fear of gaining weight and an irrational body image. it is not a “quick fix” to get skinny. there is nothing glamorous about it. it is painful and mentally, emotionally, and physically damaging.

the body of an anorexic doesn’t get the energy from the food it needs. they slow down. their metabolism becomes extremely damaged, so when they do start eating again, they put on a lot of weight (thus wasting all their “hard work”). their body tries to hold on to any nutrients it can because it is starving. the cells in their body take the calcium from their bones for supplement, making them very weak and brittle.

anorexia is believed to be caused by beauty propaganda of thin and beautiful models, as well as problems at home and ridicule.

it is a serious condition that can lead to hospitalization and even death. and the road to recovery is not any less painful.

    BULIMIA NERVOSA

bulimia is an eating disorder in which the victim restrains from eating for a period of time, then binges extraordinary amounts of food to purge. it becomes a cycle of binging and purging. this is also not a quick fix to become skinny. just as anorexia is, it is painful for the body and mind.

just like anorexia, their body doesn’t get the nutrients it needs to survive. their teeth may begin to fall out from the purging, and their hair from the lack of fats. metabolism is severely damaged and often ends in gaining a lot of weight once they begin to recover.

if they recover, because bulimics can end up being hospitalized or dying.

love your body, love yourself. don’t abuse such a beautiful thing. if you’re not happy about your weight, eat healthy and exercise. it’s so much better for you in the long run. and when you do lose the weight, you’ll have the energy, confidence, and happiness you’ve longed for.

losing weight the healthy way is the only way. there are no shortcuts.
